He graduated from the Painting and Crafts Department of Gazi Education Institute in 1949. He worked as an art teacher in high schools and teacher training schools. He went to the USA in 1962 with a scholarship he won, and studied graphics at Indiana University. Upon his return, he joined Gazi Education Institute and taught graphic courses until his retirement in 1976. He received achievement awards at the State Painting and Sculpture Exhibition in 1974, 1975, and 1987, and the Atatürk's 100th Birthday Exhibition Award in 1981. The artist Nevzat Akoral has works in the collections of the State Museum of Painting and Sculpture, as well as in private and public collections. While developing his subjects, he mostly applied printmaking techniques. It is seen that he worked predominantly with linoleum (linocut) and woodblock printing, which were widely used in those years. Akoral produced his works using these techniques and proved himself in the art scene.¹

Focusing on the people and life of the Central Anatolian region, Nevzat Akoral turned to oil painting after the 1970s.

He has held numerous exhibitions, both cataloged and uncataloged, with his paintings depicting Anatolian village life, nature, flowers, birds, water buffaloes, goats, people in daily life, chess players, and hospital corridors with an unpretentious, artless, and pure sincerity. Particularly his washes created with a few simple brushstrokes, water buffaloes, and goats are his original works. His oil poppies and jackdaws are portrayals of his passion for nature.

He made paintings observing the relations between environment, nature, and human beings, as seen in his works such as Sürü (1979), Horoz (1979), Sığırtmaç (1986), Gölgede Keçiler (1986), Mahmudiye’de Kış, Köye Dönüş, Hasanoğlan’da Bağ Bozumu, and Side. Akoral, who produced works in the field of graphics and is also known for his printmaking studies, added Ankara's shantytowns (gecekondus) in the 1970s to his compositions focusing on the local characteristics and daily lives of the Anatolian people. He used plastic elements such as line, patch, paint, and design with great meticulousness.

In his paintings depicting chess players, which is a game of intelligence, it is possible to feel the space and the entire atmosphere of the game. His hospital corridor paintings are a visual-affective narrative of the psychology of these spaces and the hopeful-hopeless waiting of people.
