Atila Çakır was born in Bremen, Germany, in 1976. Starting out with an interest in ceramics, he began his art education in the Department of Ceramics at Hacettepe University Faculty of Fine Arts in 1998, graduating at the top of his class in 2002. In 2007, he established his own studio.
Çakır’s artistic production focuses on ceramic sculptures that embrace minimalism and draw attention with simple yet powerful forms. The simplicity in bird forms and the use of vibrant colors are prominent features in his art.
He is known for using the Japanese-origin “Raku” firing technique in his works. Thanks to this technique, each piece acquires a unique surface and character through the effects of the firing and glazing stages, which makes Atila Çakır’s works original both aesthetically and technically.
Atila Çakır has participated in various group and solo exhibitions both in Turkey and abroad, and his works are included in collections.
He currently continues his work in his own studio.
The artist’s production can be defined as a bridge combining ceramics and sculpture, traditional craft and contemporary aesthetics. He creates an original visual language by combining nature-inspired forms, such as the bird form, with a minimalist approach to shape and the Raku technique.
