KAYIHAN KESKİNOK

KAYIHAN KESKİNOK (1923), eserleri Galeri Soyut arşivinde yer alan sanatçılardandır. Galeri Soyut sitesinde sanatçının 19 eseri ve 9 sergisi kayıtlı (eserlerin tarih aralığı 1977–2011). Kayıhan Keskinok was born in 1923 in İzmir, the city of victory, where the first bullet against imperialist attacks was monumentalized. The early years of his childhood passed amidst scorched earth left homeless and ruined by the retreating enemy, smelling of burnt roof tiles. Between 1930 and 1935, he attended Gazipaşa (Uşak), Karapınar (Adana, Belemedik), and İsmet İnönü (Adana) primary schools respectively. He began his secondary education at Adana First Secondary School in 1935. He graduated from Adana Teachers' School in 1941. During the 1941-42 academic year, he worked as a teacher at Iğdır Second Primary School.

He entered the Painting and Handicrafts Department of Ankara Gazi Education Institute in 1942 and graduated in 1945. At the institute, he was a student of Refik Epikman and Malik Aksel in painting, and Hakkı İzet in modeling.

In those years, despite all the material hardships of World War II, Ankara was a cultural capital boasting regular concerts by the Presidential Symphony Orchestra for the public and university students, opera and theater events by the State Conservatory Practicing Stage, and translation works known as "Classics" that the Ministry of Education offered to the public with revolutionary speed and enthusiasm. Benefiting from all these cultural resources, Kayıhan Keskinok educated himself, taking part in the school's theater club and choir alongside his painting studies, participating in sports activities, and successfully completing the glider and parachute training of Türkkuşu.

He worked successively as a painting and art history teacher at Boğazlıyan (1946) and Görele (1948-50) secondary schools, and at Kars (1950), Trabzon (1950-60), and Ankara Kurtuluş (1961-62) high schools, developing himself both as an educator and an artist during these assignments. He held his first solo exhibition in 1956 at the Faculty of Languages, History and Geography of Ankara University.

In 1960, he studied in the field of "form grammar" at the Lausanne School of Fine Arts (Ecole des Beaux-Arts), and in 1962, when he was appointed as a teacher to the Painting Department of Gazi Education Institute, he introduced the course "Form and Construction" focused on the same field into the curriculum. He worked at this educational institution until 1968. In 1970, he started working at the TRT Television Artistic Services Branch, and after working as a decorator and manager for about ten years, he retired from this institution in 1980.

He passed away in Ankara in 2015.
