The image of the "parenthesis" in the exhibition title points to a gap that opens between the roles the individual assumes in daily life and their true self, a gap that is often invisible yet always felt. For Kaya, the portrait is no longer just a physical record of a face; it functions as a mirror where the individual confronts social pressures, learned helplessness, and inner conflicts. The artist's figures, with sometimes serene and sometimes tense expressions, make visible the silent struggle modern humans maintain between their mask and their true self; each portrait depicts that invisible pause—the parenthesis—between the role society assigns to the individual and the individual's own inner voice.
Working across a wide spectrum ranging from classical figurative forms to expressionist narration in his works on canvas and paper, Kaya makes contrasts the core dynamic of the composition: light and shadow, clarity and distortion, tranquility and turmoil coexist. These contrasts invite the viewer to question the layers of emotion hidden behind every face and to consider how fluid the boundary between "self" and "other" actually is. Following his graduation from Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Fine Arts and his participation in various national exhibitions, fairs, and workshops, Kaya reveals the trace of social pressure on individual psychology with a sincere and bold visual language in this exhibition.
