In his new series, the artist focuses on urban birds—pigeons, seagulls, and swifts—that share the same geography and space with humans. Drawing attention to natural habitats destroyed in the face of profit-driven motives and uncontrolled construction, Şişginoğlu treats birds not merely as aesthetic elements or lifeless decoration of the city, but as living symbols representing the soul, conscience, voice, and ecological balance of the city. The struggle of these innocent creatures to hold onto life among the concrete and glass structures of cities transforms into a symbol of free resistance in the works.
In the works, the historical and modern textures of Istanbul and Ankara are blended with the dynamic movements of birds and presented to the viewer. Symbolic structures such as the Galata Tower, Maiden's Tower, Haydarpaşa Train Station, and City Lines Ferries, alongside Ankara Castle and the Ulus Atatürk Monument, are reinterpreted through framed composition boundaries and layered color transitions. Produced using the acrylic technique on canvas, the contrast created by serene blues with warm yellows and oranges successfully balances the infinity of the sky with the density of the city.
Born in Çorum in 1962, academic, museologist, and art educator Kadir Şişginoğlu is a graduate of the Gazi Faculty of Education, Department of Painting. Having worked as an academic for many years, he was deemed worthy of the "Art Educator of the Year" award by GÖRSED in 2012 and undertook the founding curatorship of various city museums. The artist has continued his artistic production in his studio in Ankara since 2024. This special exhibition, which questions urban culture and the human-nature relationship in an aesthetic language, can be visited at Galeri Soyut until September 30, 2026.
