Fatma Kara's solo exhibition titled "Sonra, Hiçbir Şey" is on view at Galeri Soyut / Çankaya Hall B between October 2 – 17, 2026. Opening its doors with an opening reception attended by the artist on Friday, October 2, between 18:00–20:00, the exhibition brings together Kara's latest works centered around the question of what remains of a human being after death.
The artist approaches death in this series not as a period placed at the end of life, but as the moment when a person withdraws from their own story. After that moment, the individual can no longer tell their own story, intervene in their past, or change the meaning they leave behind; while the narrative built in their wake continues to unfold. Kara's focus intensifies precisely on this moment of handover. What remains is a name, a few dates, a face, and a few belongings.
The simplest image of the series is the gravestone. The artist reads the gravestone not as a narrative of a life, but as a surface recording that that life can no longer be narrated by itself. The name placed between two dates is not the life itself, but the final mark that life left in the world. This reading establishes the core tension of the exhibition: the fracture between existence and its representation.
Figures shaped with wood and polyester form the other side of this fracture. These figures are not copies of the living body. They investigate not what happens to the body after death, but what happens to the meaning of the body. Between the time carried by wood and the surface of polyester fixing the form, the figure stands on a threshold extending from body to object, and from object to memory.
The thought giving the exhibition its name begins after this point. Memory is also mortal; first the body is erased, then the voice, then the face, and lastly the name. Kara points to the moment when one day there will not even be the last person who remembers us, and says that perhaps the deepest state of death begins right there.
The fact that an artist who worked for many years in the restoration workshop of the Ankara State Museum of Painting and Sculpture and took part in the maintenance of works surviving from the past to the present reflects on permanence and disappearance adds a distinct depth to the exhibition.

SONRA HİÇBİR ŞEYÖlüm, hayatın sonuna konmuş bir nokta değildir. İnsanın kendi hikâyesinden çekildiği andır. O andan sonra kendisini anlatamaz, geçmişine müdahale edemez, bıraktığı anlamı değiştiremez. Yaşam sona erer; fakat insanın ardından kurulan anlatı devam eder. Artık kendi varlığının öznesi değil, başkalarının hafızasında yeniden kurulan bir imgedir.Geriye bir bedenin izi, bir isim, birkaç tarih, bir yüz, bir eşya kalır. Mezar taşı bu dönüşümün en yalın biçimidir. Bir hayatı anlatmaz; o hayatın artık kendisi tarafından anlatılamayacağını kaydeder. İki tarih arasına yerleştirilen isim, bir ömrün kendisi değil, o ömrün dünyada bıraktığı son işarettir.Bu seride beden ile mezar taşını, varlık ile temsil arasındaki kırılmanın iki yüzü olarak ele alıyorum. Ahşap ve polyesterle biçimlenen figürler, yaşayan bedenin kopyaları değildir. Ölümden sonra bedene ne olduğunu değil, bedenin anlamına ne olduğunu araştırırlar. Ahşabın taşıdığı zaman ile polyesterin biçimi sabitleyen yüzeyi arasında figür, bedenden nesneye; nesneden hatıraya dönüşen bir eşikte durur.Çünkü ölümden sonra kalan, insanın kendisi değildir.İnsandan geriye kalanların başkalarının zihninde aldığı biçimdir.Fakat hafıza da ölümlüdür.Önce beden silinir.Sonra ses.Sonra yüz.En son isim.Bir gün bizi hatırlayan son insan da olmayacaktır.Ve belki ölümün en derin hâli o anda başlayacaktır:Yokluğumuzun bile artık kimseye ait olmadığı yerde.Sonra hiçbir şey.
