Born in Ankara in 1974, Fatma Kara is recognized as an artist who reflects Turkey's cultural riches and mystical elements onto her canvas with a unique perspective. Having graduated from Gazi University, Faculty of Vocational Education, Department of Applied Painting, Kara completed her art education there and later earned her master's degree in metaphysics and painting at the same university. Deepening her art by incorporating metaphysical elements into her paintings, the artist draws attention with her research in this field.
Her works have been exhibited in numerous national and international group exhibitions throughout her artistic life, and Kara has made a name for herself with awards won in competitions. Between 1992 and 2002, she worked as a painting teacher in various provinces of Turkey, and in 2002 she began working in the restoration workshop of the Ankara State Painting and Sculpture Museum, affiliated with the Ministry of Culture. During this period, she carried out the maintenance and repair of works located in the collections of important institutions such as the Presidency, the former Grand National Assembly of Turkey, the Ministry of Finance, and MTA. Kara's experience in the field of restoration adds technical depth to her art, and this expertise is clearly visible in the details of her works.
Fatma Kara's artistic understanding is based on an approach that draws inspiration from the ancient cultures of Anatolia and brings mystical rituals together with modern art. The artist's series titled "TAVANANNA" interprets the role of women in society and their mystical traditions in Hittite civilization. In this series, she creates a contemporary language by blending Anatolia's rich cultural heritage with modern techniques. Reconstructing the strong identity that women have carried throughout history through artistic expression, Kara emphasizes in her works the mystical power of women and their connection with nature.
Inspired by lead-pouring rituals in her recent works, Kara brings both the mystical world of the past and the complexity of the modern world to her canvas with these studies. Her works, which she named "TAVANANNA" in reference to Hittite mother goddesses, carry a historical and cultural depth while also revealing the artist's distinctive style. These works bring together both traditional and modern art to offer a different perspective to the viewer.
Fatma Kara's recent exhibition, "TAVANANNALAR", was on view at Galeri Soyut and received great acclaim. Kara's collaboration with Galeri Soyut has ensured that her works are recognized by wider audiences and has allowed her art to find greater resonance at the national and international levels. With the support of Galeri Soyut, Kara's art continues to carry Turkey's cultural riches to the world stage.
