Galeri Soyut Çankaya is hosting Erdi Korkmaz's exhibition titled "İnsana Dair". The exhibition is on view in Hall A between February 28 and March 12, 2025.
My works, shaped around the concepts of timelessness, anonymity, and placelessness, incorporate the common stories of all humanity. Based on the idea that human stories fundamentally touch upon the same emotions and concepts, I construct stories concerning humanity through a universal human identity. As a storyteller, I aim for every viewer to find their own stories and inferences in my paintings. The common actions of humanity—such as wars, migrations, separations, and rituals—which have survived to the present day merely changing form for thousands of years, have always existed and will continue to exist in the collective memory of humankind. Based on these concepts, the core problem of my traditional figurative painting approach is the prominence of paint and composition as plastic elements, driven by the atmospheric effect created by light and shadow.
What pertains to "humanity" is, in fact, what is universal and timeless. Without being bound to this or that culture, or to any specific time—what happened yesterday, what is happening today, and what will continue to happen tomorrow, that is, the unchanging—is what is human. By defining myself as a storyteller, I intend to open a small window into the story of all humanity and bring my stories together with the viewer…
