Galeri Soyut Çankaya is hosting Ataç Elalmış's exhibition "Barış Günlüğü". The exhibition is on view in Hall C between February 28 and March 12, 2025.
After the war began to drench the Middle East in blood, Ataç Elalmış started drawing these olive tree patterns day by day. Saying “No to War” and wishing for peace to come as soon as possible, I too joined this sacred effort.
Drawing upon his day-to-day drawings that reflect his pain and anxieties, with these texts I too say “No to War” and support striving for the establishment of peace.
Is not the olive tree the symbol of “peace”? Therefore, Ataç Elalmış created a rich painterly language with his Olive Trees drawings. Those unique texture studies on the trunks of the trees, what the branches try to say, the trunk articulating “peace” without bending or twisting... these are very important drawings that should not be kept out of sight. The language of painting and the language of texts came together day by day for “peace”. The war has not ended. They are not ending the war. They do not want peace to come. But we will not let peace off our lips until it is realized! - Gültekin Emre
