MOHAMMAD BOZORGİ

Born in Tehran in 1978, Bozorgi initially trained as a biomedical engineer before entering the visual arts through a ten-year education at the Iranian Calligraphers Association, where he mastered a range of calligraphy forms and received 'Momtaz' degrees. This solid background prompted Bozorgi to use geometry directives to create abstract illusions of depth and space while developing stylized characters based on Arabic and Persian examples.

For centuries, calligraphy has been regarded as one of the highest spiritual art forms, particularly in Iran. Artists have continued to explore this highly appreciated art form. In accordance with the aesthetic principles of Islamic art, Mohammad Bozorgi maps his compositions according to precise mathematical structures and symmetry, and despite the renewal of his writing, he never strays from the meaning of the words.

Recognized as a leading figure among contemporary 'New Generation' calligraphers, Bozorgi builds on the breakthroughs of his modern predecessors while striving to advance the art of calligraphy through experimental formalism. In his meticulously designed compositions, the text multiplies as it is infused with energy and moves in harmony on canvas or paper, originating from the center and returning to the center, much like the cyclical rhythms of nature.
