TURAN EROL

TURAN EROL (1927), eserleri Galeri Soyut arşivinde yer alan sanatçılardandır. Galeri Soyut sitesinde sanatçının 6 eseri ve 5 sergisi kayıtlı (eserlerin tarih aralığı 1975–1991). Turan Erol was born in the Milas district of Muğla in 1927. He entered the Painting Department of the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts in 1944, studying in the Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu Workshop, and graduated in 1951. Following his education, he worked as a painting and art history teacher in various provinces of Turkey for eight years.

In 1960, while serving at the General Directorate of Fine Arts of the Ministry of National Education, he went to Paris on a French government scholarship and conducted research and studies on painting for three years. During this period, he copied Francisco Goya's painting "Marquise de la Solana" at the Louvre Museum. After returning to Turkey in 1964, he worked as a lecturer at the Ankara Gazi Education Institute until 1973.

In 1974, he completed his doctorate with the thesis titled "Human and Animal Figures in Turkish Painting". In 1978, he received the title of associate professor with his thesis titled "The Formation Process of Contemporary Turkish Painting and Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu". After earning the title of professor in 1987, he was appointed to the Hacettepe University Faculty of Fine Arts and worked there until his retirement in 1990.

Turan Erol was a founding member of the 10'lar Grubu and was the last surviving member of the group. He was also among the founders of the Association of United Painters and Sculptors, established in 1970. He was awarded the title of State Artist in 1991.

Turan Erol passed away on February 15, 2023, at the age of 96 at the hospital where he was receiving treatment in Ankara. His wife, Türken Erol, also passed away in the morning hours of the same day. Following the funeral prayer performed at the Kocatepe Mosque on February 17, the couple was laid to rest at the Gölbaşı Cemetery.
