Biography
SEMİH KAPLAN (1976), eserleri Galeri Soyut arşivinde yer alan sanatçılardandır. Galeri Soyut sitesinde sanatçının 162 eseri ve 17 sergisi kayıtlı (eserlerin tarih aralığı 2008–2018). Sitedeki eserlerinde en çok görülen teknikler: Kağıt üzeri sulu boya, Tuval üzeri akrilik boya, Sıraltı Dekorlu Elle Şekillendirme Seramik Form. He was born in Istanbul in 1976. He was among the first graduates of the Eskişehir Fine Arts High School Painting Department. He completed his undergraduate education at the Anadolu University Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Ceramics in 1998. The same year, he began working as an instructor in the Department of Graphics at the Anadolu University Faculty of Fine Arts. He completed his master's degree at the Anadolu University Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Ceramics between 1998-2003, and his proficiency in art degree at the Anadolu University Institute of Fine Arts, Department of Painting between 2003-2009. He became an assistant professor in the Department of Basic Education in 2010, and an associate professor in the Department of Basic Education in 2016. Basic art education, design principles, color theory, drawing, and lithography are among the courses he teaches. Having opened numerous solo exhibitions, the artist has received various awards in painting, çini, ceramics, and printmaking fields, notably from the 59th State Painting and Sculpture Exhibition Ceramics Competition, the 65th State Painting and Sculpture Exhibition Printmaking Competition, and the Naval Forces Command "10th Sea and Human" Painting Competition.
Serving on the jury of the International Römhild Ceramics Symposium, the artist has participated in numerous symposia, workshops, and exhibitions with his works in Germany, China, Japan, Spain, and Moldova. Semih Kaplan was selected as one of the artists within the scope of the art production and acquisition project carried out between the 2011-2013 period, which aimed to contribute to the promotion of our country and our artists by ensuring that distinguished examples of Turkey's contemporary painting, sculpture, and çini art reach a wide audience on an international scale, to be exhibited at the central campus of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey in Ankara and our representations abroad; his large-scale acrylic paintings on canvas, watercolor paintings, and çini mural paintings joined the collection of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey. Additionally, considering the architectural project of our new Berlin Embassy service building, the project of which was prepared through a competition by the German "Nickol-Schmidt-Hillig" Architecture Office, he realized the design, application, and assembly of a stone çini mural painting titled "Uzaklar" measuring 200x600 cm, in harmony with the spatial integrity, for permanent conservation in the Ambassador's office and meeting floor foyer in 2012.
Simultaneously with the completion of the new service building and campus of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Abuja in 2013, the project of which was prepared by the "TH& İDİL" Architecture Office, his acrylic on canvas work titled "Başka Dünyalar", measuring 200 x 584 cm and in harmony with the architectural project and spatial integrity, is permanently and fixedly exhibited in the Embassy building.
Following the completion of the new service building of our Ulan Bator Embassy in July 2013, the project of which was prepared by Architect Han Tümertekin, he realized the design, application, and assembly of a stone çini mural painting titled "Kökler", measuring 200x150 cm and in harmony with the architectural project and spatial integrity, depicting the evolution of Turkish culture and civilization from the Orkhon Inscriptions to the present day, to be exhibited permanently in situ. In different years, he executed site-specific, large-scale stone çini mural applications for institutions such as Ankara University, Istanbul University, and the Turkish Pharmacists' Association. He continues his painting, ceramics, and çini works in his studio in Eskişehir. The artist produced printmaking works at IMOGA in 2022.
