She was born in Edirne in 1975. She graduated from the Painting Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Hacettepe University in 1997. She completed her master's degree in 2000 and her proficiency in art training in 2007 at the Painting Department of the Institute of Social Sciences at Hacettepe University.
Since 2003, she has participated in numerous national and international group exhibitions and projects. She took part in artist exchange programs in Leipzig, Germany in 2008 and in Amsterdam, Netherlands in 2010. She opened her first solo exhibition titled "An" in 2013, followed by "An ve Zaman" in 2014, and her third solo exhibition titled "Kırılgan" in 2020.
Akgün's works focus on the relationship between time, space, and the human body. While exploring themes such as the transience and fragility of the body, she combines figurative expression with various disciplines. Alongside canvas painting, different media such as photography, video, and installation also find a place in her production.
The artist continues her work in her studio in Istanbul.
