HAYATİ MİSMAN

HAYATİ MİSMAN (1945), Galeri Soyut’un temsil ettiği sanatçılardan biridir. Galeri Soyut sitesinde sanatçının 281 eseri ve 18 sergisi kayıtlı (eserlerin tarih aralığı 1983–2026). Born in Konya in 1945. He studied at Konya-Akşehir Teachers' School between 1961-64. He worked as a primary school teacher in Erzincan-Tercan in 1964-65. He studied at Ankara Gazi Education Institute, Department of Painting and Art Education between 1965-68. Hayati Misman graduated from the Gazi Education Institute Department of Painting and Art Education in 1968. Between 1970-1975, he specialized in graphic design at the Kassel State Academy of Fine Arts with a scholarship from the Ministry of National Education. In 1975, he started working at the Gazi Education Institute Department of Painting and Art Education. He received his proficiency in art degree from the same university in 1984. The artist became an associate professor at Gazi University in 1987. He served as a faculty member at Bilkent University Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture between 1987-2001. He moved to Hacettepe University in 2001 and became a professor. He retired from the same institution in 2005. Trying to paint the forms not of nature, but of his own nature, the artist still continues his duty as a visiting professor at Bilkent University Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture. He has held over fifty solo exhibitions, some of which were abroad. He has won fifteen awards, including the 1992 Greece-Turkey Abdi İpekçi Friendship and Peace Award and the 16th International Alexandria Biennale Award held in Egypt. The artist is one of the leading names in Turkey, especially in printmaking. The most important feature in his paintings is the 'line'. An expressionist line and the draftman-like attitude brought to the agenda by this line cannot be ignored. He starts painting like a game... One move creates another move, revealing an order. In this order, the harmony of colors with each other and the proportions of forms with each other are very effective. Misman believes that drawing is an artist's honor, but he also thinks that it is wrong to present it as if it were a work of art in its own right. However, he points out that in order to be able to say 'I am an artist', one must first draw well. Hayati Misman's line is a typical expressionist line. His paintings do not end in a single session; they require working layer by layer. He constantly questions the phenomenon of density on one side of the composition and emptiness and serenity on the other. He does not paint a figure one-to-one; he always acts like an expressionist by incorporating his feelings into the work.
