MEHVEŞ ÖGEL

MEHVEŞ ÖGEL (1960), eserleri Galeri Soyut arşivinde yer alan sanatçılardandır. Galeri Soyut sitesinde sanatçının 54 eseri ve 4 sergisi kayıtlı (eserlerin tarih aralığı 2020–2025). MEHVEŞ ÖGEL was born in Ankara in 1960. After completing her secondary education at Yükseliş College and her higher education at Hacettepe University Department of Physics Engineering, she worked in the Information Systems and Technologies departments of the State Institute of Statistics, Şekerbank, and Gama Holding, respectively.
She began her studies in the workshop of Kayıhan Keskinok in 2005. She completed her basic and advanced art education under Kayıhan Keskinok, İbrahim Demirel, and Sema Sanal in 2009. She then continued her advanced studies in the same workshop until 2013. Since 2013, she has been continuing her work in her own studio.

The artist is in a contemporary pursuit by combining the kamaiyö technique with expressionist color, brush, and palette knife strokes. Carrying the identities of her own inner world to the canvas through the portraits she creates, the artist establishes a connection with them through colors. However, the stress brought by the troubled days of our era is reflected in her figures. Although she tries to escape this depression by using vibrant colors, the portraits do not allow for this.
The escape speaks to us from canvases independent of time and space, residing within all of us. Some reflect the sadness of escaping from space, some from time, and even from oneself. Through her works, the artist asks: What is it that you are running away from?
