ENGİN KORKMAZ

ENGİN KORKMAZ (1972), Galeri Soyut’un temsil ettiği sanatçılardan biridir. Galeri Soyut sitesinde sanatçının 603 eseri ve 60 sergisi kayıtlı (eserlerin tarih aralığı 2011–2026). Engin Korkmaz was born in 1972 in the İspir district of Erzurum. Discovering his interest in art at an early age, Korkmaz graduated from Uludağ University, Faculty of Education, Department of Painting and Art Education in 1992. Continuing his academic career, he completed his master's program at the Uludağ University Institute of Social Sciences in 1997. Alongside his art education, Korkmaz began working as a lecturer at the same university in 1996, guiding his students by teaching Basic Design, Graphic Design, and Lettering.

In addition to his academic studies, the artist actively maintains his art career. Having held 12 solo exhibitions to date and participated in 25 international and 60 national exhibitions, Korkmaz adopts an approach in his works that emphasizes the importance of thought and harmony. According to his artistic vision, the dynamics of creative thought in his paintings are nourished by the struggle between contrasts and harmony. This dynamic process manifests itself on the canvas as a plastic explosion, serving as a means to make sense of the complexity and chaotic nature of life.

In Engin Korkmaz's art practice, the theme of Istanbul holds an important place. Addressing the historical texture and modern transformation of the city from a fantastical perspective, he reconstructs Istanbul's architectural elements in line with his own aesthetic concerns. In these works, while historical structures that are symbols of the city, such as the Galata Tower, Maiden's Tower, and Hagia Sophia, remain in the shadow of modern skyscrapers, Korkmaz brings these elements to the forefront in his art, offering a different perspective on Istanbul.

The artist's works, found in many collections both in Turkey and abroad, have solidified his place in the art world. Winning an Honorable Mention in the Exlibris Competition on the Theme of "Rauf Denktaş" organized by Near East University in 2011 and being deemed worthy of the Uludağ University Science and Art Grand Award in 2013 are important milestones in Korkmaz's artistic career.
