Hatice YAZICIOĞLU GÜRLER was born in Manisa on a cold day in 1971.
She was not aware of the world, or probably not aware of her own awareness.
As a child, like any child, she made toys out of mud and dried them on planks. That is how she met clay. Then her first prize gift was a ceramic whistle.
Ceramics quietly crept into her soul. Neither did she resist its coming to her, nor did it stay away from her.
Ever since she graduated from Trakya University Department of Ceramics in 1991, for a full 35 years, they have confided in each other, rejoiced together, and been stubborn with one another. It brings the artist excitement, awards, sleepless nights, joys, and surprises, while the artist practically becomes an interpreter of its language.
Added to her history with ceramics are 14 solo exhibitions, national and international awards, the title of artist, and so on.
If you were to ask the artist which one was precious, she would tell you, "those unique times I spent with ceramics." Everything else is truly in the past....
Manifesto:
"Conscience and the Shell of Conscience"
CONSCIENCE is the breaking point where reason withdraws and emotions become visible.
Indicating man's simplest and most genuine existence, this concept is too complex and personal to be reduced to a single definition.
CONSCIENCE is a thin line where darkness turns into light, and light into darkness.
CONSCIENCE, which has/can have no single definition, is the definition of emotions such as good, bad, impudent, suburban, cruel, silent, clamorous, destructive, honorable, encapsulating the essence, cyclical, sorrowful, wounding, captive, and proud.
All of these are man's purest state. And they are UNIQUE and SINGULAR.
In this exhibition, while the abstract concept of CONSCIENCE is materialized through the formal possibilities offered by the ceramic material, CONSCIENCE's initial breaking moment, the cracking of the shell, is expressed with colors.
The tones of Blue, Green, Purple, Orange, Brown, and White used in the works reflect connotations related to the inner world.
Blue; deep emotions
Green; transformation and renewal
Purple; sorrow experienced in solitude
Orange; the exuberance of emotions
Brown; timelessness
And White; are the moments when deep purity is set into motion.
"Conscience and the Shell of Conscience" centers on the relationship between emotion, form, and color, offering a space for reflection on man's inner world and personal bond with conscience.
Artistic Approach:
The artist works on abstract forms where universal emotions, the quietest and most powerful voice within man, are processed.
She believes that universal emotions create a common language for every individual.
With the porcelain forms she has been working on recently, she occupies the fine line between fragility and durability.
Her stance against smoothness is her belief that traces, mistakes, and memories of deficiencies within life are a test of life and emotions.
Her works emerge not merely as objects, but as an inquiry, a testimony, and an inner voice.
