Born in the Kemah district of Erzincan in 1938, Tuncay Betil completed his initial art education in Turkey before going to Paris in the 1960s, where he developed his painting skills. The artist's life encompasses a great sensitivity and at times a dramatic depth that is also reflected in his paintings.

The main theme in Betil's paintings is generally the love of "mother and child", female figures, and inner loneliness. In his compositions structured with an expressionist attitude, he used broad color fields and prominent lines that emphasize the emotional states of the figures. Despite the difficulties he encountered in the final years of his life, the artist did not compromise his productivity and passed away in Istanbul on February 24, 1988.
