Born in Istanbul in 1921, Cihat Özegemen completed his higher education in the Department of Architecture at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts, though he built his art career primarily on painting. Successfully transferring his perception of space and perspective from his architectural training onto the canvas, the artist carved out a unique place for himself in the surrealist and fantastic wing of Turkish painting in the 1970s and 80s.

An imaginative world generally dominates his works; figures, nature motifs, and abstract elements are presented within an intertwined composition. The tones of green he used particularly in his oil paintings, prominent brushstrokes, and surreal portraits constitute his signature. The artist, whose works are included in numerous public and private collections, including the Ankara Painting and Sculpture Museum, passed away in Istanbul in 1990.
