ŞENOL YOROZLU

Şenol Yorozlu was born in Trabzon in 1950. He studied at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts, Department of Painting, in the Prof. Neşet Günal Atelier, graduating in 1978. He took his first steps into art with caricatures; his drawings were published in various humor magazines in the late 1960s.

He began to make his mark in the field of painting with his first solo exhibition in 1978. Over time, he turned toward abstract expression and approached the figure in an expressionist style. He drew attention with his broad brushstrokes, large color patches, and his approach to social issues. He held numerous exhibitions both in Turkey and abroad and participated in biennials. He lived in Sweden for a period, where he conducted research and continued his artistic production. Later, he continued his work in Istanbul.

His art possessed a critical, dissident quality that brought a critical perspective to historical and social phenomena. He was remembered by his friends and art circles as an artist independent of authorities and sensitive to society.

Şenol Yorozlu passed away in Izmir on July 19, 2023. As one of the significant figures of contemporary Turkish painting, he left a lasting mark on the art world.
