Tayyar Özkan is on view with his solo exhibition titled "ÇAĞ’ın Şehirleri" between September 20 – October 8, 2025 at Galeri Soyut Çankaya / Hall B.
Born in 1962, the artist published his first drawings in local newspapers and magazines between 1976-78. In 1983, he graduated from Gazi University, Gazi Faculty of Education, Department of Animation. Illustrating children's books and greeting cards during his student years, Özkan later continued his production in Turkey's leading humor magazines and daily newspapers.
Moving to New York in 1989, where he created drawings for advertising agencies and fashion companies, the artist became internationally known especially for his CAVEMAN character. Starting to be published in Heavy Metal magazine in 1993, Caveman was printed as albums in different countries; it met with readers across a wide geography from France to Spain, from the Netherlands to China. Özkan also produced many works for prestigious publishing houses such as DC Comics, Vertigo, and Eros Comix.
In addition to his comic book career, Özkan has signature works in character designs, storyboard studies, and animation projects, and taught courses at universities in both Turkey and America for many years.
Recently transferring his accumulated experience to the art of painting, Özkan draws attention with his acrylic paintings. In this exhibition, the artist brings the future cities shaped by modern life and technology to canvases with a colorful perspective of hope.
The artist includes the following words in his manifesto regarding the exhibition:
"I worked on what kind of living spaces the wildly developing modern life and technology will offer us in the future. By carrying the vibrant colors of nature to giant skyscrapers and metropolises, I imagined a colorful world that gives hope instead of a pessimistic future. Every era creates its own generation. Welcome to its 'ÇAĞ' and cities!"
