TANJU YAĞAN

Galeri Soyut is hosting Tanju Yağan's solo exhibition titled "Anın Yansıması" between January 10 and January 29, 2025. The opening reception of the exhibition will take place on Friday, January 10, between 18:00 and 20:00.

Born in Kayseri in 1968, Tanju Yağan graduated from the Department of Psychology at Boğaziçi University between 1985 and 1989, and then completed his art education at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. Here, he stepped into his artistic journey by benefiting from the influential education of Özdemir Altan, Gülang Taner, Adnan Çoker, Asım İşler, Aydın Ayan, and Gökhan Anlağan, among others.

The artist's works have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Turkey and abroad to date. He has been continuing his work in his studio in Antalya since 2017.

Tanju Yağan's approach to art is based on the effort to reflect reality with a pure and plural richness of meaning. The artist believes that producing meaning from our surroundings, which seem meaningless, should be enriched with poetic and metaphysical elements.

While continuing the classical art tradition of "posing" in his figurative compositions, Tanju Yağan aims to reflect the states of figures living in the moment. In this way, he creates an "ambiguity of meaning" and sees this ambiguity as a key to creating a richness of meaning. The artist believes that this ambiguity offers a world where the multiplicity of connotations and images meet with striking meanings.

In his works, it is often possible to see elements such as a "cow," "turkey," or "stone block" that cannot be made sense of. While these elements are a conscious choice of the artist, they invite the viewer to question and create their own world of meaning.
