Galeri Soyut Çankaya is hosting Müslüm Teke's solo painting exhibition titled "Sizin Yüzünüz'den 2" in Hall B between April 25 and May 14, 2025.
"SİZİN YÜZÜNÜZ'DEN"
Examining human beings through their direct existence rather than an indirect investigation under the umbrella of a specific subject, artist Müslüm Teke's face/faces in his works evoke the feeling of being a gateway to our sub-selves—which we bury in dark corridors behind the persona we display and make visible throughout our lives, hide, and cause great chaos within us...
When I look at his works, the first visual call comes from the eyes, which are located at the center of the generally abstract and abstraction-oriented works, standing out radically with their realistic portrayal. With this call, as if entering through a door, I witness one self opening up to a thousand selves. A halo, the image of a door, and a face instantly become a planar image of an existence. It is possible to confirm this approach in the other fictional details of the painting. These details are the ambiguity of gender, emotion, mimicry, and any distinct expression on these faces. All qualities of our selves reflecting onto external life seem to be reset...
The eyes, which strikingly invite the viewer, transform into an appearance where emotional movements are uncontrollably reflected as my viewing deepens. Sometimes a single shadow, sometimes dozens of shadows falling on the face right behind the eyes, and sometimes a face fallen upon the shadows greet us. The main chaos in the existence of the painting takes shape precisely at this point. While this psychological chaos materializes in the artist's brush through the plastic language of the painting, it is put into an aesthetic order with all forms and space shaped within colors used with tremendous professionalism. The "ebb and flow" of the intricate relationship between the foreground and background of the painting elevates the viewer to a strong pleasure.
The cross marks located in a corner of the painting in many of the artist's works featured in this exhibition seem like a summary of the general adventure of viewing. The cross mark, which does not have a positive connotation in general visual usage, makes me think in the story of the paintings about our self, which is shaped by other factors rather than having the option of choice, and consequently our life shaped accordingly.
Every ongoing action and behavior that we call identity is included in the classification of the persona. We are invited to explore our plain existence falling among these shadows with the artist's works in this exhibition!
