Galeri Soyut is hosting artist Emine Bıyıklı’s solo exhibition titled “Deformasyon” between January 10 and January 29, 2025. Known for her abstract figurative works, Bıyıklı brings together different techniques and materials in her pieces to offer viewers new visual experiences. The exhibition is on view in Ankara and can be seen until January 29, 2025.
Emine Bıyıklı is an artist born in İzmir, and she continues her art career, which she started in 2000 at the İzmir Güzelyalı Culture Center, in her studio in İzmir Göztepe. Deepening her personal expression language through searches, the artist draws attention with her use of different materials and abstract forms. Focusing on empathy, observation, and the external expression of inner emotions in her art, Bıyıklı aims to leave an "open door" for the viewer, allowing them to find personal meanings in her paintings.
The artist's recent works consist of abstract figurative compositions. Titled Deformasyon, this exhibition features works produced by the artist with mixed media on canvas. The "fantastic faces" and "expressionless" forms seen in Bıyıklı's paintings gain meaning according to the viewer's perspective. Emphasizing that the canvas is a virgin space, the artist shapes her works with the traces offered by life.
Bıyıklı’s past exhibitions include important venues such as Turgut Pura Foundation Art Gallery (2022), Ege University MÖTBE Culture Center (2014), İzmir State Painting and Sculpture Museum (2012), and Turkish American Association (2013). The artist's works are included in many private collections and are on view in group exhibitions.
Describing her works with the words "The journey into the unknown that starts with play in childhood, observing and internalizing life… The canvas is an unvisited space; an endless search that I touch with different materials..." Bıyıklı invites the viewer on an inner journey with the exhibition “Deformasyon”.
The exhibition opens at Galeri Soyut Hall A on January 10, 2025 and can be visited until January 29, 2025.
