SİMGE KALFAOĞLU (1975), eserleri Galeri Soyut arşivinde yer alan sanatçılardandır. Galeri Soyut sitesinde sanatçının 19 eseri ve 3 sergisi kayıtlı (eserlerin tarih aralığı 2019–2026). Simge KALFAOĞLU was born in İzmir in 1975. She graduated from Dokuz Eylül University, Buca Faculty of Education, Department of Painting in 2000.

She completed her master's degree at the same university in 2006. Her master's thesis topic is "What Art Education Contributes to the Individual and the Support of This Awareness." Having continued her career as a painting teacher for 23 years, the artist pursues her work in her private studio in İzmir. Having also received art therapy training, the artist has held numerous solo exhibitions, and participated in group exhibitions and art fairs.

About Her Art:

Simge Kalfaoğlu has aimed to paint with a questioning attitude that seeks psychological realism in her paintings. In this sense, she has made confident progress over the years towards finding her unique style to serve this purpose. In her paintings created with a figurative approach, while aiming to reflect the truth of human nature, the expression in the portrait seems to be the crowning glory, and the original bodily expression appears as the element that completes it. Portrait and body are thus brought together with a reality that completes and integrates each other. She attaches importance to preserving and developing her personal style with the aim of creating works that are not just admired and passed by, but watched as one looks and appreciated over time. While pursuing beauty in art, she does not care about physical beauty. She continues her path with a perspective that does not merely please, but makes one think, loves, pushes and pulls, and creates a field of influence.

The effort to keep plastic elements in the foreground has also progressed on a path equivalent to all her other efforts. Therefore, we follow an understanding of painting in her works that both values the story and brings plastic elements to the fore, thus feeding each other.

Although the artist seems to put the space in the background in her paintings, that void is sometimes surrendered to the viewer's own creative world. Sometimes she completes her space by placing an object or a form that suggests a space in the void. Ultimately, whatever atmosphere the rich story of the figure needs, it takes shape there spontaneously. In this part, the artist seems to enjoy joining hands with the viewer.

Simge Kalfaoğlu is also a portrait artist. Continuing to make portraits alongside all her paintings, the artist paints with a feeling that values the invariable value of the portrait, and believes that the truth of human beings can be presented most realistically precisely through this way. The viewer remains face to face with the portrait. Thanks to this contact, they enter into a more direct relationship with themselves. Because the place where human truth, emotion, and thought are most concentrated is the most intense and free space created by the portrait. This freedom is the area where one remains most free both in terms of plastics and in terms of expressing emotion.

Simge Kalfaoğlu offers us a painting program painted with simplicity but pursuing intense meanings. Human beings, by nature, experience happiness, sadness, grief, pain, and fear, and give birth to their own consciousness. This very existence is her reality in a psychological or spiritual sense. The destination the artist wants to reach is the story of human existence.

Simge Kalfaoğlu prioritizes storytelling in her paintings. The constructed stories have a layered narrative structure. The polychromy of the paintings and the originality of the character figuration support the fairy-tale, poetic narrative.

Simge Kalfaoğlu's figures each realize their own leading role with their unique, original characters.

Birds, cats, and human figures lead an integrated life and are usually painted within nature.

We also see her supernatural, unique fictional figures in her paintings. A cat or human with angel wings draws us into a magical atmosphere. She expresses her existentialist view with a fairy-tale, symbolist, surreal language and her unique figures. The artist defines her own painting as "spiritual realism."
