İBRAHİM AKGÜNEY (1971), eserleri Galeri Soyut arşivinde yer alan sanatçılardandır. Galeri Soyut sitesinde sanatçının 99 eseri ve 3 sergisi kayıtlı (eserlerin tarih aralığı 2016–2026). Born in Erzurum in 1971, İbrahim Akgüney is one of the artists who has carved out a unique place within Turkey's artistic diversity. After graduating from the Department of Painting at Atatürk University Kazım Karabekir Faculty of Education in 1995, he embarked on an educational career with the aim of fostering a love for painting and art among younger generations. During this process, believing that art is not only a form of expression but also a tool for teaching and discovery, Akgüney developed his art from this perspective.

His master's thesis titled "Kandinsky and Abstract Art", completed in 2007, marked a turning point in Akgüney's artistic career. This study provided him with the opportunity to understand the interaction between thought and material on a deeper level. Embracing randomness and chaos in his works, Akgüney internalizes Picasso's notion of "I do not seek, I find." His art practice is a process of conducting a kind of visual experiment with new materials and different techniques. Working with industrial materials such as OSB boards and turning surface irregularities and textures into tools of expression, the artist strives to transform these accidental traces into a layered plastic unity.

Akgüney's art can be defined beyond the traditional, through his pursuits of artistic discovery and innovation. The exhibition "Yongadan Masallar", which he opened at Galeri Soyut in 2023, is an important part of this quest by the artist. In this exhibition, works where industrial materials were transformed into an artistic narrative medium offered viewers an extraordinary experience. The artist also continues this aesthetic journey with "Yongadan Masallar-2", which he exhibited at Galeri Soyut in 2024.

Akgüney's art has not been limited to painting alone, but has also manifested itself in the field of sculpture. In particular, the first-place finishes and various awards he won in national snow sculpture competitions held in Palandöken demonstrate his interest and competence in different disciplines of art. The First Prize in the National Snow Sculpture Competition won in 2002 and the first place achieved in the International Snow Sculpture Festival held with the participation of twenty-five universities in 2007 are the most notable examples of his achievements in this field.

Throughout his career in art and faculty teaching, İbrahim Akgüney continues to make valuable contributions to Turkish contemporary art by seeking an original synthesis of aesthetics and material. His works not only breathe new life into ordinary materials, but also offer viewers the opportunity to question the meaning behind these materials. Akgüney passionately reflects the power of art to discover, create, and transform in his works.
