Born in Istanbul in 1918, Nimet Berdan is an important representative of the generation of female painters of the Republican era. Following her education at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts, she reflected the workshop discipline of masters such as Leopold Levy in her own brushwork, and became known especially for her figurative compositions and landscapes.
A strong observational ability blended with impressionist influences stands out in Berdan's paintings. Istanbul's shores, parks, and still lifes come to life through her soft color palette and fluid brushstrokes. Exhibiting a modern sensibility throughout her artistic life without breaking away from a traditional structure, the artist passed away in Istanbul in 2001.
